| Disnie There came a knock on the door in the afternoon of August 7, 2000. The girl next door had come over to tell me that Darlin’ Clementine had just delivered her baby! As we walked together back out to the birthing paddock to check out the new arrival, she was telling me that the baby was so new that it didn’t even have a tail yet. I assured her as we walked that it must have a tail but maybe it was tucked up under the still wet baby and I assured her that as soon as the baby was dry and moving around that we’d be able to see the tail. We got closer to mama and baby and I had to agree with her. It sure did look like the baby had no tail but I was still sure it was tucked or just hard to see because the baby was still wet. Finally we were up close to Darlin’ and her new baby. OH!! She was right! The baby had no tail! The baby was normal and healthy in every way…just had no tail! We researched this condition but had no luck. Emails to the American Donkey and Mule Society went unanswered. Some long time breeders have told us that this is a "once in a blue moon" occurrence and will probably never happen again even if the same jennet is bred to the same jack. We have not been able to find any information on tail-less donkeys. If you know where we can find any information on this condition or if you know of another tail-less donkey, please contact us. Disnie has become somewhat of a local celebrity. People started comparing her to the popular "Winnie the Pooh" character "Eeyore" who loses his tail quite regularly. This is where her name comes from. She is registered as "Endin’ like Eeyore" but we call her "Disnie". She has been featured on the local NBC morning news program and also was in the December 2000 issue of "Florida Living Magazine". Disnie is not for sale and will live out her long life on our farm.
